Kalmah is about 12 years old but they are surely giving some great competition to the melodic death metal gods like In Flames,Amon Amarth,Dark Tranquility.Kalmah is the perfect brand of melo death metal.'12 gauge' is the sixth studio album by this great finish band. This album is 42 mins of pure fuckin metal. It features Pekka kokko(Vocals/Guitar),Antti Kokko(Guitar),Marco Sneck(keyboard),Timo Lehtinen(Bass) & Janne Kusmin(Drums)
The Album kick starts with the song "Rust Never Sleeps".It had a slow acoustic intro but it gains tempo.Pekka's vocals on this one are fairly low much like on the album"The Black Waltz".One Of Fail" starts with a brilliant high scream. The awesome lead work by Antti has to be appreciated. The chorus has some great chanting/Gang vocals which builds up into a melodic solo by Antti."Bullets Are Blind" begins with a exotic riff which leads into an usual kalmah song with vocals bang on target."Swampwar" starts off at a pretty fast pace but does get a slow in the middle. It has great tremolo picking stuff in the entire sonf."Better Not To Tell" starts with a slow palm muting riff. This is rather slow and still heavy.Kalmah has incoprated some great tasty riffs in this album."Hook The Monster" has a great solo, macro has experimented brilliantlyith the intro. The drummer Kusmin reamins highly underrated .The next song"Godeye" reminds me of "Burning Creation" by Amon Amarth. The best part of the song starts after the intro."12 Gauge" has some crazy high vocals .The main riff shows Thrash's influence on Kalmah. This song has a music video and this is easily the best song on the album.Last song "Sacramentum" has some great work by Marco. It has some great clean acoustic parts.
Overall this is a must buy for all the kalmah/melodic death fans .Kalmah has adopted melodic acoustic parts to their arsenal and have added another dimension to their music. But its certainly not the best kalmah album.
Cheers
